Healthy Youth Summit 5
April 23, 2016 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
As part of a continuing focus on cultivating the conditions that help youth thrive, the partnership of the Bainbridge Healthy Youth Alliance supported two culture enhancement summits on April 23, 2016. Teens and adults met together and separately in the following programs:
How to Raise and Adult: Moving to Action
Adults met to continue the provocative conversation started by Julie Lythcott Haims, former Dean of Freshmen at Stanford University. After icebreaker exercises led by students, adults explored their own parenting styles and enjoyed conversations with other parents. One highlight was discussing the anonymous teen feedback on the behaviors teens felt helped or hindered their growing independence and self-efficacy as they step toward adulthood.
Bainbridge High School students came together to help create a kinder and more inclusive high school culture. Led by professional facilitators from the Association of Washington Student Leaders, students enjoyed a day of games and experiential exercises designed to foster creativity and innovation. As a result of the event, a set of key principles were created. Students chose quotes to demonstrate these principles to be made into banners at the high school. To ensure their vision becomes a reality, they also created an action plan for next year.
